Red Emma’s Bookstore Coffeehouse (Baltimore, Maryland) is an independent bookseller managed by a worker-owned collective. The store features an impressive and extensive selection of books related to radical politics and social movement history. BfloRisingBurning Books (Buffalo, New York) is a radical bookstore, community center, and infoshop. The store opened in 2011 and sells books related to historical freedom struggles, social justice movements, environmental struggles, and other movements for radical social change. The space is coordinated and maintained by volunteers working in a collective and non-hierarchical environment. The bookshop offers books from presses such as Verso, South End Press, Last Gasp, AK Press, and many others. The Iron Rail specializes in radical politics/culture and local books about and by New Orleanians, with a sideline in challenging & interesting fiction. Their non-fiction covers a broad spectrum, organized by category, ranging from anarchist theory, feminism, gender/queer and race studies to history, philosophy and spirituality. OutsideSignQuimby’s Bookstore in Chicago is an independent bookstore that sells independently-published and small press books, radical literature, comics, and zines. Quimby’s also provides “space for writers, zinesters, comics artists, and self-publishers to sell their work, meet, have events, and also to get the word out about their work.”  (Visit Quimby’s at 1854 West North Avenue in Wicker Park. Boxcar2-300x225Boxcar Books is a non-profit, independent bookstore, infoshop, and community center in Bloomington, Indiana, that “exist[s] to promote reading, self-education, social equality, and social welfare through increased accessibility to literature and workshops – and the promotion of a community to support these projects.” Boxcar Books is also home to the Midwest Pages to Prisoners Project, “an all-volunteer effort that strives to encourage self-education among prisoners in the United States. By providing free reading materials upon request, we hope to promote rehabilitation and reintegration rather than punishment, and to stimulate critical thinking behind bars.” Boxcar Books is currently carrying all of the available OooA! titles in their store, which is located at 408 E. 6th St. Bloomington, IN 47408.
